Wildlife photographer Lola Ross spends hours wandering the mountains alone in search of the perfect shot. Coming from a broken home, and with her heart shredded by an uncaring ex, she thinks love is a mug’s game. When she stumbles over a new-born fawn with a broken leg in the Highlands, Lola takes it to Lochwood Wildlife Rescue Centre, intending to hand it over and leave.
Jonas Buchanan is a fixer. No matter if it’s his rundown smallholding, or a bird with a broken wing, he wants to mend it. And now that his little croft has become a haven for sick and injured wildlife, he’s dedicating his life to nursing animals back to health. Yet, when he sees Lola with the fawn, he isn’t sure which of the two needs his care the most. But he also has more pressing worries, in the form of the centre’s dire finances.
Drawn to Jonas by his care and dedication, Lola finds herself doing what she’s vowed never again to do – fall for a man. Her instinct is to flee, to avoid her heart being broken once more. But can she leave him in his hour of need? Especially since she has the means to help him, if only she can bring herself to.

Lilac Mills
Lilac Mills lives on a Welsh mountain with her very patient husband and incredibly sweet dog, where she grows veggies (if the slugs don’t get them), bakes (badly), and loves making things out of glitter and glue (a mess, usually). She’s been an avid reader ever since she got her hands on a copy of Noddy Goes to Toytown when she was five, and she once tried to read everything in her local library starting with A and working her way through the alphabet. She loves long, hot summer days and cold winter ones snuggled in front of the fire, but whatever the weather she’s usually writing or thinking about writing, with heartwarming romance and happy-ever-afters always on her mind.
