Praise for All We Hide
An Apple Books Best of the Month Pick
“Robyn Gigl combines a solid police procedural and an incisive legal thriller in the emotional All We Hide, which also works well as an origin story about a transgender woman.”
—Oline Cogdill, South Florida Sun Sentinel
“This is quite possibly Gigl’s best so far, and the book you will be hungry to finish. Dedicate a weekend to devouring it.”
—Out in Jersey
“Although Lauren’s experiences as a transgender woman inform the story, this is first and foremost a deeply satisfying crime investigation filled with convincing police work, memorable supporting characters, and twists that continually reshape the case. Fans of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta novels and other character-driven procedurals will appreciate this thoughtful, compelling series opener.”

“What a wonder! All We Hide is a riveting police procedural with a massive, beating heart. Robyn Gigl introduces the terrific trans detective Lauren Kelly, a forensic force whose investigations are always personal, and who is dedicated to healing old wounds. If cold-case podcasts dominate your feed and you can hum the Law & Order theme song, get this superb thriller immediately. It will change the way you think about whose voices need to be heard. All We Hide is a gift for all of us, a procedural that feels as intimately tender and hopeful as it is intricately plotted. Your fingers will burn from turning the pages so fast.”
—Margot Douaihy, bestselling author of Scorched Grace
“The first thing you need to know about All We Hide is that it will likely be the best work of crime fiction you will read this year. Robyn Gigl deploys one of the classic tropes of noir—the outsider protagonist who takes on a murder investigation no one wants investigated—and spins a complex tale whose twists and turns ultimately braid together two seemingly unrelated story lines in an unexpected but satisfying conclusion. But beyond the intricate plotting, the superb characterizations and fine writing is a deeper story that could not be more timely or more affecting in the dark age through which we as a society are passing. For the protagonist of this tale, District Attorney Investigator Lieutenant Lauren Kelly, is a transgender woman. Her late-in-life transition has earned her the brutal contempt of her law enforcement colleagues and a difficult relationship with the ex-wife she still loves and the teen-age daughter she adores, but she, despite the relentless hostility she encounters, remains committed to the choice she made to become her authentic self. Lauren Kelly is dogged, courageous, and compassionate, an unambiguous hero, not only for what she does but for who she is. She and her creator deserve to be celebrated. All We Hide is not only a masterful work of crime fiction but a document of social justice.”
—Michael Nava, author of the Henry Rios mysteries
“Some books are ripping page-turners and some books speak eloquently to a specific moment in time. In All We Hide, Robyn Gigl does both—and she does it with style and a deep well of empathy. Truly a must-read.”
—Rob Hart, USA Today bestselling author of the Assassins Anonymous series
“Robyn Gigl has already shown she can center a trans woman in a legal thriller with the best results. In All We Hide, Gigl has created another riveting, trans protagonist—Police Lieutenant Lauren Kelly, who is smart, tough, and brings all the feels. Grappling with her professional and personal relationships, we root for Lauren as she manages the ostracism of her macho police colleagues, navigates a lingering attraction for her ex-wife, builds a new bond with the daughter she loves beyond life, and methodically places the pieces of two puzzling crimes. All We Hide is authentic, intimate, revealing, and tender. This page turner will satisfy the most ardent crime fiction fan.”
—Cheryl Head, author of Time’s Undoing
“Robyn Gigl writes with rare insight and deep compassion in All We Hide, delivering a crime novel that is as emotionally powerful as it is gripping. With an insider’s understanding of this world and a clear moral intelligence, Gigl reminds us that justice is never simple and that empathy must move in many directions. The result is a riveting and deeply humane cold-case police procedural.”
—John Copenhaver, award-winning author of Hall of Mirrors
“All We Hide by Robyn Gigl is a gritty, insightful, and fascinating mystery about loss and discovery. Robyn Gigl is a crafty storyteller, but what I loved most about All We Hide was the way it drew me in and let me walk around the shoes of a character far removed from my own experiences. And at the end of the day, isn’t that exactly what a reader wants from a novel?”
—Allen Eskens, bestselling author of The Quiet Librarian
“Brilliant. Groundbreaking. Emotionally intense.’’
