Nature wins, especially in needlework popularity contests. In this fifteenth-anniversary edition, veteran needleworker Standfield (The Knitter’s Stitch Collection, 2021) recaps her take on translating flowers, fruits, and vegetables into yarn. Written in UK terminology (of note to crocheters), this collection first showcases finished items, then follows with technical instructions. Those directions include yarn specifications (sans brand names) and methods, and, for crochet, instructions for how to make up (i.e., put together) and symbols, with further differentiation into beginning, intermediate, and advanced projects. Many of the pieces will be familiar (e.g., ladybug and acorn); others, less so (like Santolina and rudbeckia). A color portfolio of ten projects, without instructions, acts as a creative guide to using flowers and fruits for added design flourishes, on an evening handbag or winter scarf, for two examples. A standard for libraries thatdon’t already own this classic reference.

From a reader: ‘I was thrilled to finally find a book that appears to be the ultimate source for both knit and crochet flower instructions. The book contains detailed colorful photos of each flower and easy to follow directions. There is also a great index by flower with small images so you can quickly select what you are looking for. This book even includes flowers I’ve never seen anywhere else, such as a lavender spray. I took this book to my knit and sew group and a couple of other ladies had to order the book because they also fell in love with it. This book will make a great gift for yourself or anyone that knits or crochets. Since most flower projects go fast, you get instant gratification. ‘

From a reader: ‘Wow. This is the most stunning knitting and crochet book I’ve ever seen. The flowers are gorgeous, correct, and the patterns appear to be pretty straight forward. ‘
