Author Q&A

Dear Reader,

I’m delighted to have this chance to chat to you about Archangel’s Kiss, the second book in my “Guild Hunter” series. This was a new kind of book for me to write, because while I’ve followed couples from book to book in my “Psy/Changeling” series, this is the first time I’ve written two full-length books about the same main couple.

If you’ve read Angels’ Blood, the first book in the series (and I really recommend that you read this series in order), then you know that something very unexpected and extraordinary happens at the end. I couldn’t imagine just leaving things there—I wanted to know the consequences of that occurrence, not only for Elena, but for the dark new world which is her home.

Even more than that, I wanted to witness the next step in Elena’s and Raphael’s relationship. After all, though he has claimed Elena as his own, Raphael is an archangel—lethal, beautiful…and used to absolute obedience. Except Elena has never been any man’s pawn, and she’s not going to start now, no matter if her world has changed at such a visceral level that nothing will ever be the same again.

The only thing that remains is the haunting pain of Elena’s past. It’s a past that stirs to tormenting life in this book—we see the events that made her the woman, the hunter she is; feel the ripples of those blood-soaked moments across time—until they threaten to color Elena’s present life. And it isn’t only the past that Elena must fight. Another archangel is playing the most deadly of games, and as Raphael’s lover, Elena is considered to have accepted an invitation to play…even if she stands no chance against an immortal who has lived millennia.

Of course, Elena’s new world isn’t all darkness. After all, it’s a world that has the beauty and laughter of Illium in it—and the blue-winged angel has a bigger part to play in this book (he insisted on it and how can anyone say no to Illium?). It was also fun to tangle with Dmitri and Venom again, learn a little more of Jason’s mysterious secrets, and meet the rest of the Seven. Vampires and angels both, they are each and every one of them fascinating.

I loved returning to this world. For me, it becomes ever more real, ever more nuanced with each word I write. As for the characters, they keep surprising me, showing me new facets of their personalities, making me want to learn still more. I hope you feel the same way when you pick up Archangel’s Kiss. As always, feel free to e-mail me with any questions through my website, www.nalinisingh.com

Happy reading!

Nalini
