Donald O. Clifton, PhD, (1924–2003) a former entrepreneur and professor of educational psychology at the University of Nebraska, founded Selection Research, Inc. (SRI), a management-consulting company, in 1969. In 1988 SRI acquired The Gallup Organization (The Gallup Poll) and Clifton was formerly the Chair and CEO of SRI Gallup. Clifton was the co-author of Soar with Your Strengths and Now, Discover Your Strengths.
