Francis Chalifour has spent 25 years teaching grades 1 through 12 across Ontario and Québec—an experience that allowed him to gather the best of both provinces. He holds a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Ottawa, where he studied how the mourning process affects children’s learning.
Teaching also led him into broadcasting (TFO, Global TV) and journalism, with bylines in The Toronto Star, The Walrus, Maclean’s, Le Devoir, La Presse, Le Journal de Montréal, and Professionally Speaking. Let’s just say he’s not afraid to wander into new rooms when someone leaves the door open.
Francis has been writing since childhood. His first published book was the French novel Zoom Papaye. His first English novel, After, was shortlisted for a Governor General’s Literary Award—a reminder that taking the scenic route through two languages can lead to unexpectedly wonderful places.
