Helen Gardner

Helen Gardner (1908–1986) was an English literary critic best known for her studies of T. S. Eliot and John Donne. An honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, she was the first woman to hold the position of Merton Professor of English Literature at Oxford University.
