W P Kinsella

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, W.P. KINSELLA has been writing stories since he was a young child. He has also worked as a civil servant, a life insurance salesman, a cab driver, a pizza-parlour manager and a teacher of creative writing. He earned a B.A. at the University of Victoria and an M.F.A. at the University of Iowa.

Shoeless Joe, W.P. Kinsella’s first novel, was published in 1982 to critical acclaim and won several awards, including the Houghton Mifflin Literary Fellowship and the Books in Canada First Novel Award. It was also made into a widely praised film, Field of Dreams. His short story collection, The Moccasin Telegraph, is also available in Penguin Short Fiction. Kinsella’s Brother Frank’s Gospel Hour (1994) came out of the Order of Canada.
